President Sang urges greater judicial reform

HA NOI (VNS)— President Truong Tan Sang asked the Central Steering Committee for Judicial Reforms to contribute suggestions for the amended 1992 Constitution.

During the steering committee's ninth working session yesterday, which Sang chaired, the President said this should be a top priority. The committee should also prepare for a comprehensive review of the implementation of the Politburo's Resolution 49 on Judicial Reform Strategy to 2020, he added.

"The Central Steering Committee for Judicial Reforms, along with other ministries and local authorities, should keep track of the nation's progress in judicial reforms," Sang said.

This includes improving the structure and operations of the People's Procuracy, People's Court and investigation agencies, as well as creating favourable conditions for people working with judicial agencies.

Assessing the committee's performance last year, he said there had been significant progress towards judicial reform, citing the number of new projects and bills.

However, he also pointed out that the reforms remain inefficient in some sectors and a number of projects still failed to meet requirements. — VNS
